Pakistani ambassador praises Azerbaijan’s backing on Jammu, Kashmir issue

05 February 2026 10:13

The Pakistani Embassy in Azerbaijan held an event on Tuesday marking Kashmir Solidarity Day, with the country’s ambassador to Baku, Qasim Mohiuddin, attending alongside diplomatic staff and media representatives.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Mohiuddin reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support for the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination under United Nations Security Council resolutions, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

He noted that Kashmir Solidarity Day reflects Pakistan’s commitment to the Kashmiri cause, which has persisted for 36 years since the uprising of 1989.

“For nearly eight decades, Kashmiris have shown remarkable resilience in the face of India’s illegal occupation. The situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir remains a serious concern for the international community,” he said.

He criticised India’s actions of August 5, 2019, saying they intensified attempts to consolidate the occupation through political, administrative, and demographic measures. Ambassador Mohiuddin highlighted ongoing human rights violations, including arbitrary arrests, collective punishments, destruction of homes, suppression of digital freedoms, and targeted religious persecution.

The ambassador also emphasised the Kashmiri people’s right to practise their religion freely, without fear or coercion. He condemned India’s military escalation in May 2025 as evidence that lasting peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without resolving the Kashmir dispute.

“Beyond concern, the international community must call on India to end human rights abuses and allow international observers. Pakistan and its people express gratitude to the government and people of brotherly Azerbaijan for their steadfast support on Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Kashmir until they can determine their future through a free and impartial plebiscite,” he added.

The event concluded with a tour of an exhibition dedicated to Kashmir Solidarity Day.
