Parliament slams French Assembly's proposal of anti-Azerbaijan resolution Official statement

25 July 2025 20:12

Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) has drafted a statement responding to a new resolution proposed in the French National Assembly.

The official response has been shared with Caliber.Az and points out that the draft resolution has been advanced by pro-Armenian circles.

"The [French] document, which represents yet another attempt to interfere in regional matters, once again distorts facts, shows a blatant disrespect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and contains false accusations against our country. It is clear that the advancement of the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, in particular following the meeting in Abu Dhabi, does not align with the interests of certain forces. They have chosen a path of escalating tensions and derailing the normalization process.

The recent agreements [entered] between New Caledonia and France already indicate that New Caledonia is confidently moving toward asserting itself as a sovereign state. The support extended to New Caledonia by the Baku Initiative Group has seriously disturbed Paris. It is safe to say that the French side is attempting to respond to the activities of the Baku Initiative Group through this draft resolution in its typical manner.

At the core of such actions, whether it might be the anti-Azerbaijan initiative of Valérie Pécresse and Anne Hidalgo or the resolutions that have been so far adopted by the National Assembly against our country, lies the fact that France cannot accept being left out of the peace agenda in the South Caucasus. That is why it seeks to use every possible means to provoke a new escalation in the region, with the greatest support coming from the Armenian lobby and pro-Armenian circles.

Another important point must be emphasized: One can observe an obvious interconnected network that stands behind the actions targeting Azerbaijan, with its individual units carrying out various provocations in the parliaments of Switzerland, France, and the US Congress. However, they must understand that such provocations will not influence the independent policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, and that no external interference in the processes of the South Caucasus region will be tolerated under any circumstances," the Milli Majlis' commentary reads.
