Parliament speaker: Azerbaijan secured historic climate consensus at COP29 PHOTO
Azerbaijan succeeded in achieving a historic consensus at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), overcoming significant obstacles and uncertainties, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova said in her address at the Leaders’ Summit held as part of COP30 in Belém, Federative Republic of Brazil.
According to Caliber.Az, citing the press service of the Milli Majlis, Gafarova emphasised that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan had hosted one of the most successful Conferences of the Parties, decisively advancing the global climate process.
“At COP29, Azerbaijan managed to eliminate differences between the parties and reach a historic consensus on issues that had remained unresolved during previous rounds of negotiations,” the Speaker stated.
Gafarova added that hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan served as clear evidence that even amid geopolitical tensions, mutual distrust, and economic uncertainty, countries can still unite to pursue common objectives.
“It was a true demonstration of the triumph of multilateralism, which Azerbaijan succeeded in achieving despite continuous challenges,” Gafarova concluded.
