Parliament Speaker: France seeks to escalate tensions in South Caucasus

11 July 2024 18:22

Sahiba Gafarova, Chairwoman of the 6th convocation of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), accused France of attempting to escalate tensions and transform the South Caucasus into a conflict zone during her address at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum.

She highlighted Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts in post-conflict reconstruction following the restoration of its territorial integrity and sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Gafarova emphasized the return of former IDPs to their native lands in the liberated territories.

Additionally, she noted ongoing normalization efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, aimed at fostering long-term peace and stability in the region.

Expressing regret over increasing attempts to interfere in the peace process, Gafarova pointed to France's actions, criticizing the country for its interference under various pretexts.

She accused France of promoting neo-colonial practices and exacerbating regional dynamics to turn the South Caucasus into a zone of confrontation. However, she affirmed Azerbaijan's steadfast stance in preventing such attempts with resolute determination.
