Party leader: Türkiye to "break the chains" with BRICS membership
Hakan Topkurulu, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Vatan (Homeland) Party, has declared that Türkiye's potential accession to the BRICS group would represent a groundbreaking change in the country's geopolitical alignment.
In a recent statement, Topkurulu emphasized that joining BRICS would allow Ankara to "break the chains" of the North Atlantic Alliance, signalling a shift away from traditional Western alliances, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Topkurulu noted that an impressive thirty-four countries, including Türkiye, have submitted applications to join BRICS, highlighting the growing influence and strength of the coalition. He pointed out that the expansion of BRICS has accelerated significantly, particularly between 2023 and 2024, reflecting a transformative period in international relations.
The BRICS group, consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has been expanding its membership to include nations seeking alternatives to Western-led economic and political frameworks. Türkiye's participation in this bloc could reshape its foreign policy and economic strategies, aligning it more closely with emerging markets.
