Petition initiated by Azerbaijanis in spotlight of French website
French website Megazap referred to the petition of Azerbaijanis addressed to the Senate and the people of France.
"Civil diplomacy is still relevant in today's world. A petition to the French Senate has caught the attention of many people. It was posted on Mesopinions, a nationwide French petition website, on October 11 and has collected over 100,000 signatures so far. The main purpose of the petition is to protest against the anti-Azerbaijani resolution proposed for consideration by the Senate.
Ordinary citizens of Azerbaijan, who do not officially represent the government, have never yet addressed the parliamentary bodies and the people of France. An anti-Azerbaijani resolution proposed by six members of the Senate on October 3, 2022, which is to be considered on November 15, has prompted us to do this. This document contains accusations against our country, and therefore against us, as well as an appeal to the government of France and other EU countries to impose sanctions on imports of Azerbaijani gas and oil. This is an absolutely one-sided and biased approach to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. The authors of the resolution advocate interests of only one side - Armenians. At the same time, they completely ignore the sacrifices, sufferings, and aspirations of the other side, and constantly consider us, Azerbaijanis, as the ones to blame. This preference for one nation and discrimination against another is considered a public manifestation of ethnic intolerance and racism!
Try to realise that the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is a much more complex chain of contradictions, traumas, and grievances than you have been led to believe. It is very important for France to get rid of its one-sided perception and adopt a more balanced stance," a French website wrote about the petition of the Azerbaijanis.
It should be noted that although the Azerbaijanis' petition to the Senate and the people of France was among the five most resonant petitions on foreign topics ever posted on Mesopinions website, most of the French media have ignored it, which also indicates a biased approach by the French side to Azerbaijan.
