PM Asadov: Azerbaijan to anchor stability, growth in South Caucasus

26 August 2025 17:28

Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov has declared that the South Caucasus is entering a historic era marked by enhanced security, stability, sustainable peace, and regional cooperation.

Prime Minister Ali Asadov, speaking at a government session assessing the outcomes of President Ilham Aliyev’s US visit, outlined Baku’s strategic vision for regional stability, economic integration, and enhanced connectivity — signaling the dawn of a new geopolitical era for the region, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Asadov stated that the Washington meetings had ushered in a new and promising phase for the region, with far-reaching implications for its development and integration.

"Today, we are witnessing the start of a historic period in terms of security and stability in the South Caucasus," the prime minister said.

“The agreement on opening a new corridor not only ensures the end of the blockade of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and catalyzes its socio-economic development but also lays the groundwork for broader regional transport and economic integration.”

He stressed that the realization of this corridor poses significant responsibility for the Azerbaijani government, especially in the initial implementation phase, which will require “intensive daily efforts.”

Describing the corridor as a strategic link between Europe and Asia, Asadov highlighted its transformative potential: “This unique route will redefine the region’s energy and transport landscape, accelerate trade between nations, and significantly boost Azerbaijan’s role as a transit hub. It will also strengthen the country’s export capabilities and expedite its integration into the global economy.”

He further underscored that Azerbaijan’s peace-focused agenda is now shaping not only its own future but also that of the wider South Caucasus.

“This is a crucial, historic development for our region. The South Caucasus is on track to become an island of stability,” Asadov declared. “This vision has always been a key pillar of the policy of President Ilham Aliyev — a leader who knows exactly what to do and when to act, and who consistently delivers on his commitments.”
