PM: Azerbaijan-Georgia friendship key to regional stability and development
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov has underscored the importance of Azerbaijan’s friendship and strategic partnership with Georgia, describing it as a key factor for regional stability and development.
He made the remarks during the opening of the fifth Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, local news agency reports.
Asadov highlighted the forum’s rapid rise as a respected and effective international platform for discussing pressing regional and global issues. He noted that recent global developments, particularly challenges in economic cooperation and transportation, have further demonstrated the relevance of such gatherings.
Pointing to the historical significance of Azerbaijan and Georgia, Asadov said the two countries, situated on the strategic transport route of the Great Silk Road connecting East and West, have long served as a bridge between Europe and Asia. This role has contributed to the growth of trade, economic ties, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
He added that both countries continue this historical mission today, taking a leading role in enhancing regional cooperation and in the development of new transport and logistics routes across Eurasia.
“As partners, Azerbaijan and Georgia have for many years been a stabilising factor in the region,” Asadov said. “Today, both countries are reliable partners not only politically, but also in economic, energy, and transport sectors. Transport and transit remain a priority area, with great potential to boost mutual trade and investment and create new economic opportunities. Our strategic location and substantial investments in transport infrastructure have strengthened Azerbaijan’s position as a key transport and logistics hub in Eurasia.”
