PM: Azerbaijan’s investments in Turkic states near $21 billion

18 September 2025 15:05

Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov announced that the country’s investments in the member states of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) are nearing $21 billion.

He made the statement on September 18 during the meeting of OTS heads of government in Bishkek, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Asadov noted that the dynamics of economic relations among member states are positive. In the first seven months of 2025, Azerbaijan’s trade turnover with OTS countries grew by more than 8 per cent.

“The volume of investments made by Azerbaijan in the OTS countries is approaching $21 billion. We have established joint investment funds with several partners, which facilitate the attraction of mutual investments in priority economic sectors,” Asadov said.

The prime minister underlined that cooperation in the transport sector is advancing steadily, playing an important role in strengthening regional connectivity. He highlighted the significance of the Middle Corridor, a strategic trade and transit route running through the territories of the Turkic states.

“The Middle Corridor not only holds strategic importance in the regional context but also in terms of expanding global trade and transport links. In this regard, the agreements recently reached in Washington on establishing direct transport connections between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic carry historic significance. The opening of the Zangezur Corridor will not only create new economic and transit opportunities for all states in the region but, by integrating into the Middle Corridor, will further enhance its capacity,” Asadov said.

He also recalled the Nakhchivan Agreement, marking its 15th anniversary last year, which he described as the foundation for the successful development of the OTS. According to Asadov, modern global challenges demand closer cooperation and timely responses. Within this framework, the exchange of views, convergence of positions, and development of common approaches among Turkic states are vital for ensuring regional stability, security, and prosperity.

Asadov stressed that mutually beneficial cooperation among OTS members creates new opportunities for expanding trade and economic ties, strengthening economic potential, and diversifying transport routes.

He pointed out that over the 15 years since the signing of the Nakhchivan Agreement, the Turkic states have developed extensive multilateral cooperation based on their shared history, culture, and language.

“Our organisation is active across many areas. Its geographical coverage, natural resources, and human capital make the OTS a structure of strategic significance in the international arena. As President Ilham Aliyev has said, the Organisation of Turkic States is our main international organisation, because it is our family. We fully support the strengthening of its political and economic influence both regionally and globally. Azerbaijan has established strategic partnerships or alliances bilaterally with all OTS member states,” Asadov concluded.
