PM Kobakhidze uses EPC summit to advance Georgia’s European agenda

02 October 2025 12:23

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has emphasised his intention to use the 7th European Political Community Summit in Copenhagen to advance discussions on Georgia’s European future.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the summit, Kobakhidze highlighted the importance of the gathering as a platform for dialogue with European leaders, Caliber.Az reports.

“This is a very important format where I have the opportunity to talk with European leaders. Yesterday, at dinner, I also had the opportunity to talk to a number of leaders, and everywhere we talked, of course, about our national interests,” he said.

Kobakhidze noted that Georgia’s European integration remains a central priority of the country’s foreign policy. “We are discussing our views on how to move forward with European integration, which is one of the main priorities of our foreign policy. Yesterday, we had an interesting exchange of views and ideas with European leaders, and, of course, we are using today's format to discuss our national interests and our European future as much as possible,” he added.

The Prime Minister also outlined his planned speech at the summit, which will focus on the economy and Europe’s economic interests, particularly in terms of connectivity and mineral resources. He stressed Georgia’s significant potential as a transit hub and its broader economic opportunities. “And, of course, this is precisely what we will be discussing with our European partners,” Kobakhidze said.

The summit, currently underway at the Bella Centre in Copenhagen, brings together more than 47 heads of state and government from across Europe, including leaders from the European Union and neighbouring countries. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and European Council President António Costa are co-chairing the event.

The gathering provides a forum for strategic and political dialogue, aimed at strengthening cooperation and addressing shared challenges across the continent. Security has been heightened in response to recent drone incidents at Danish airports, with Sweden contributing anti-drone systems and radar equipment.

Among the notable participants is Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is attending the summit alongside other European leaders.
