PM Orban: Existence of Georgian, Hungarian peoples - “miracle”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is on a visit to Georgia, has thanked Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili for the invitation and noted the importance of relations between the two countries.
The existence of the Georgian and Hungarian peoples is a “miracle”, Caliber.Az reports citing the Georgian media.
“Dear Irakli, there is a debate in the modern world about whether miracles exist or not. We, Christians, think that they exist, but those who do not believe in the existence of miracles should come to this hall tonight because there are at least two miracles here: firstly, this is Georgian miracle - your history, the geopolitical system of your nation, the fact that the Georgian people exist, there is such a language as Georgian, and the people who live here and speak this language, there is Georgia and that this country is Christian is a miracle,” he said.
“The next miracle in this room is the Hungarian one. As you know, we, Hungarians, came from the Far East, the Urals 1,100 years ago, there were no relatives or family members around us, there were only us - the Hungarians. We are in this territory, we still have the same language, we still have the same culture and we live our own lives,” Orban said and expressed hope that the meeting of prime ministers “not only will prepare the political basis for relations between the two countries but will also provide them with such a basis at a deeper level”.
Orban supports granting Georgia candidate status for EU membership.
He said in Granada, Spain that Georgia did not receive the status because of the “selfishness of the leaders”. Brussels granted this status to Ukraine and Moldova in 2022, while the “European perspective” was chosen in relation to Georgia.
