Iran demands compensation from US, Israel over attacks on nuclear facilities
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has demanded that the United States and Israel provide compensation for damages resulting from recent attacks on the country’s nuclear facilities.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary-General and members of the United Nations Security Council, Araghchi described the strikes as a “clear violation” of international law and urged immediate action from the council, WANA News Agency reports.
He emphasized that attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities in Natanz and near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant constitute breaches of the United Nations Charter, the statutes of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and fundamental principles of international law.
Araghchi cautioned that strikes targeting nuclear sites could trigger the widespread release of radioactive materials, creating serious risks to civilians and the environment.
The Iranian foreign minister characterized the attacks as acts of war crimes and aggression against international peace, calling for the condemnation of those responsible, an immediate cessation of further strikes, and full reparations.
He also urged the Security Council to compel Israel to accede to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and to place its nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
