PM Pashinyan says Germany to simplify visa issuance for Armenians
In a meeting with journalists in Hamburg, Germany, on December 10, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that news is expected regarding Germany granting visas to Armenian citizens.
The prime minister cited the German ambassador to Armenia, who stated that starting next year, there would be no queues during the visa application process, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“Yesterday [December 10] in Berlin, we learned very important news. The German ambassador to the Republic of Armenia stated that starting next year, there will no longer be queues at the German embassy,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
The Armenian Prime Minister did not provide further details but noted that the issue of simplifying the EU visa application process for Armenian citizens is on their agenda.
He said they have been working on this issue with their European Union partners for quite some time, expressing concern that citizens currently have to wait up to 10 months to obtain a visa. Now, the first response has come from the German embassy in Armenia.
He expressed hope that this process will continue in a chain reaction. The Prime Minister also reminded that in recent years, the flow of tourists from Armenia to the EU has increased significantly despite difficulties in obtaining visas.
Pashinyan noted that many people prefer to travel to Rome, Berlin, and other European cities for weekend trips, reflecting changes in the sector and improvements in citizens’ quality of life. As an example, he mentioned that previously, airline tickets seemed unaffordable for many due to their high cost, whereas now they can be purchased for €35–50. This, in turn, encourages citizens to travel to Europe more frequently.
