PM: Poland to accelerate Ukraine's EU accession talks
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that Poland, during its presidency of the EU, may expedite Ukraine's EU accession talks.
Tusk made these remarks at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Warsaw, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Poland’s presidency will allow us to break the deadlock from last month and speed up the accession process,” he said.
There are still 35 negotiations to be completed, while Ukraine remains in a state of conflict. Therefore, any accession process will take years, and EU membership remains a distant prospect.
Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated during a press conference that Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations could begin in early 2025. However, this step would depend on Ukraine’s good progress in meeting EU requirements.
