PM rebukes West: They did nothing after attack on Georgia, now they demand sanctions
After the August War (The 2008 Russian-Georgian War), the policy towards Russia continued as it was, and "no one did anything," Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.
Talking to reporters, the Georgian premier noted that there were no sanctions against Russia after the war in 2008, Georgia Online says.
“After the August war, we were also destroyed, people died, we lost territories, but no one revised anything...The policy continued as it was. If you're wondering what the value of goods purchased by the EU from Russia is, it is $2.5 trillion. What sanctions were you talking about? Due to the fact that our territory is occupied and we had a war, no one did anything, imposed sanctions, and we had to endure it,” he stressed.
The PM added that Georgia sympathizes with Ukraine and really wants this trouble to end as soon as possible.
“But since there is war and trouble in Ukraine, and we need to get involved in it, we need to be destroyed, there should be a ‘second front’, so that our cities are bombed, turned into a training ground and not let our people breathe? Where is the logic? I ask Western friends: you tell me to stop trade, stop the economy, don't resume flights, why don't you do it? Why don't you stop trading? Why was Russia given 300 billion last year?” he questioned.
Furthermore, Garibashvili added that Georgia wants peace, stability, prosperity and unification.
