Poland aims to foster peace and cooperation in South Caucasus during EU presidency
Poland has unveiled bold plans to lead efforts for peace and stability in the South Caucasus, prioritising the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan during its six-month presidency of the European Union (EU) Council.
In a strategic move outlined in its action programme, Poland expressed its commitment to stabilising the region and enhancing cooperation between the two nations, with an eye towards fostering closer ties with the EU.
The plan, which spans from January to June 2025, underscores Poland’s desire to create conditions conducive to regional peace and mutual growth, Caliber.Az reports.
"The Polish Presidency will strive for the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the stabilisation of the situation in the South Caucasus region," the document states. It also highlights Poland’s intention to open new avenues for collaboration between Baku, Yerevan, and the EU.
Furthermore, Poland's presidency will also focus on supporting Georgia's EU membership ambitions, aiming to strengthen the ties between the country and the European Union.
In addition to its role in the South Caucasus, Poland will continue to advocate for greater political dialogue and cooperation within the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy, specifically between the Western Balkans, Türkiye, and the broader EU community.
As Poland prepares to take on this pivotal role, all eyes will be on its efforts to influence key regional dynamics and propel the EU’s strategic objectives forward.
