Powerful earthquake jolts Türkiye's Antalya, no casualties reported
A strong magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck 25 km (15 mi) from Antalya, Türkiye, on December 8, at 1:21 p.m. local time (GMT+3). The quake, which occurred at a moderate depth of 113 km (70 mi), was widely felt across the region, prompting concern among residents.
Antalya and its surrounding districts have experienced multiple tremors throughout the day, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the epicenter of a previous significant quake was located in the Serik district of Antalya, measuring magnitude 4.9. Citizens reported feeling the tremor distinctly across several locations and took to social media to describe the earthquake as severe.
Earlier in the day, the region had also experienced a 4.3-magnitude earthquake at midnight. The recurrence of a second, stronger tremor further heightened anxiety, underscoring concerns over ongoing seismic activity in the area.
Authorities report that there are currently no confirmed casualties or damage. Emergency services continue to monitor the situation and have urged residents to remain cautious in the aftermath of the quakes.
