President: Serbia evacuates embassy staff from Iran to Azerbaijan
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that the staff of Serbia’s embassy in Tehran will be evacuated to Azerbaijan after the diplomatic mission sustained damage during recent strikes, Azerbaijani media reported.
According to the president, the embassy was not directly targeted, but the building was damaged by falling debris after one of the attacks struck a nearby Basij base.
“One of the strikes targeted a Basij base. Debris damaged our embassy. As for our people in Iran, today our personnel will be evacuated in the direction of Azerbaijan,” Vučić said, noting that Serbia’s ambassador will temporarily relocate to Azerbaijan before later returning to Tehran.
The Serbian leader also stated that the largest number of Serbian citizens in the region are currently located in the United Arab Emirates and will be evacuated as soon as circumstances allow.
