President Tatar: Türkiye guarantees security, stability of Northern Cyprus

Türkiye is the guarantor of the security and stability of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

TRNC President Ersin Tatar made the statement at the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Gabala, Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

He emphasised that, in this context, Northern Cyprus can look to the future with confidence: “We thank Türkiye for its constant support. Türkiye serves as the guarantor of Northern Cyprus’s security and stability. We want Türkiye to maintain its presence on the island as a guarantor country. Northern Cyprus stands not for conflict, but for cooperation and peace. Therefore, we continually take steps to engage in dialogue with the Republic of Cyprus.”

Ersin Tatar added that the acceptance of Northern Cyprus as an observer in the OTS is a demonstration of support from the Turkic world.

Hosted by President Ilham Aliyev under the theme "Regional Peace and Security," the gathering—spanning October 6–7—brought together heads of state from member nations, observers, and international dignitaries, marking Azerbaijan's chairmanship handoff from Kyrgyzstan and underscoring Baku's growing clout as a geopolitical linchpin.
