President Tokayev addresses nation over Kazakh flooding
In light of severe floods, ten regions in Kazakhstan have declared a local emergency regime.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced this measure in a public address on the Kazakh leader's website, Caliber.Az reports.
President Tokayev noted that this natural disaster is unparalleled in decades and could be the most significant in over 80 years.
The ten regions that have declared an emergency regime are Abay, Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanai, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, and Ulytau oblasts.
To address the situation, the government has taken steps to mitigate the consequences of the floods, including forming a Republican Headquarters led by the Prime Minister.
According to Kazakhstan's Emergency Situations Ministry, the floods have caused considerable damage, with 3,171 private homes and 179 courtyards affected in Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, Kostanai, Pavlodar, and North Kazakhstan Oblasts.
