Prominent French journalist denounces decision to demolish Azerbaijani poetess monument in France PHOTO
Jean-Michel Brun, a well-known French journalist and editor-in-chief of the Paris-based online newspaper La Gazette du Caucase, criticised the decision to demolish a monument to Azerbaijani poetess Khurshidban Natavan in the French town of Evian-les-Bains, Trend reported on January 3.
"What a misfortune! How did we reach this point? Voltaire and Zola and especially Alexandre Dumas, who admired Natavan so much, must be rolling over in their graves!" he wrote on X.
It should be noted that the mayor's office of the French town of Evian-les-Bains, which signed a charter of cooperation with the Azerbaijani town of Ismayilli back in 2015, is preparing to demolish the Natavan monument. The statue has already been covered with a cloth.
Before that, all the signs with the name "Azerbaijan Park", where the monument stands, were dismantled.
