Media: Putin reveals over 28,000 sanctions imposed on Russia's entities, individuals

18 March 2025 19:21

Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed that a total of 28,595 sanctions were imposed on individuals and legal entities from Russia.

Putin made these remarks during the plenary session of the Congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He noted that while it appears the initiators of these sanctions may have lost track of their count, the Russian Finance Ministry has been closely monitoring the numbers.

"I can confidently tell you — 28,595 sanctions against individuals and legal entities," the Russian president said.

He further emphasised that this figure surpasses the total number of sanctions imposed on all other countries combined, and by a substantial margin.

He emphasised that sanctions against Russia undermine investment freedom and global trade.

At the same time, the president added, these sanctions have served as a positive catalyst for Russia's economy, particularly in the financial sector. The president assured that Russia would do everything possible to support domestic businesses.

Additionally, President Putin informed that several companies that had left the country are now looking to return to the Russian market. However, he stressed that priority would be given to domestic producers. Foreign companies abandoned their business in Russia and now want to buy it back for a modest price. If the niches vacated by these companies have already been filled, time has passed to do anything and no preferential treatment will be given.
