Rail chiefs of Azerbaijan, Georgia discuss boosting freight along Middle Corridor

27 May 2025 17:29

Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) CJSC Rovshan Rustamov, currently on an official visit to Georgia, has held a meeting with the newly appointed Director General of Georgian Railway JSC Lasha Abashidze.

Rustamov congratulated Abashidze on his recent appointment and wished him success in his new role, Caliber.Az reports, citing ADY.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics. Particular attention was paid to improving the efficiency of international transit corridors running through Azerbaijan and Georgia, and to optimising freight transportation along the East-West-East axis.

The officials emphasised the growing importance of the Middle Corridor in regional connectivity and highlighted the strategic role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line in boosting transit volumes.

The discussions also included ways to strengthen the operations of the joint venture “BTKİ Railways” LLC to streamline freight traffic along the BTK route and attract additional cargo flows.
