Red Cross staff visits released Azerbaijani servicemen Learns how they were treated during captivity
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staff has visited two Azerbaijani servicemen released from Armenian captivity on December 13.
The announcement was made by Ilaha Huseynova, head of the Public Relations Department of the ICRC office in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The Red Cross staff assessed under what conditions they were detained and how they were treated.
According to her, the ICRC also created conditions for the resumption or continuation of ties between these individuals and their families.
"We also met and talked to these people before the exchange process. All of them expressed their desire to return," Huseynova noted.
On December 7, 2023, following the negotiations between the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and the Office of the Armenian Prime Minister in a demonstration of the spirit of loyalty to the principle of humanism, an agreement was reached to release military personnel as a mutual trust-building measure between the two countries.
Two Azerbaijani servicemen, Huseyn Akhundov and Agshin Babirov, were released by Armenia during the December 13 swap. Azerbaijan handed over 32 individuals of Armenian origin to the opposite side.
