Armenian PM thanks Azerbaijani leader for lifting cargo transit restrictions

22 October 2025 10:56

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for lifting all restrictions on cargo transit to Armenia.

He made the remarks during his speech at the fifth anniversary Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi, local media reports.

Pashinyan also extended his thanks to Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov for his support in facilitating the move.

The announcement follows a statement by President Aliyev on October 21 in Astana, during a joint press conference with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Aliyev confirmed that Azerbaijan had removed all transit restrictions to Armenia that had been in place since the occupation.

In response to the announcement, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan outlined the route for Kazakh grain deliveries to Armenia via Azerbaijan. Posting on Facebook, Papoyan said:

"In the near future, the first batch of Kazakh grain will arrive in Armenia by Aktau-Baku railroad and then by Azerbaijan-Georgia railroad. Peace is established."
