Azerbaijan marks five years since liberation of Zangilan's Aghband village
Today marks the fifth anniversary of the liberation of the 132-kilometre section of the Azerbaijan-Iran state border, which had long been under occupation by the Armenian armed forces.
The village of Aghband in the Zangilan district was liberated from occupation on October 22, 2020. On that day, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces fully regained control over the section of the Azerbaijan-Iran border that had been occupied for nearly 30 years, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Alongside Aghband, the villages of Kollughgishlagh, Malatkeshin, Kand Zangilan, Genlik, Valigulubayli, Garadara, Chopadara, Tatar, Tiri, Amirkhanli, Gargulu, Bartaz, and Dallakli in the Zangilan district; the villages of Mollavali, Yukhari Rafidinli, and Ashagi Rafidinli in the Fuzuli district; as well as Sirik, Shikhlar, Mastalibayli, and Darzili in the Jabrayil district were also liberated.
Following the liberation, the State Border Service, under the directive of the President, promptly established the necessary infrastructure to secure the restored section of the Azerbaijan-Iran border and reactivated the border outposts.
Aghband village, part of the Vejnali rural administrative district of Zangilan, had been occupied by Armenian forces since 1993. It is located along the Araz River, at the foot of Mount Aghband.
