Speaker: Azerbaijan affirms support for UN, global humanitarian efforts PHOTO

Azerbaijan supports the United Nations and global humanitarian initiatives, Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said at the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland on October 20.

During discussions on “Upholding humanitarian norms and supporting humanitarian action in times of crisis” Gafarova highlighted the issue of missing persons as a key humanitarian challenge, Caliber.Az reports.

She noted that around 4,000 Azerbaijanis went missing during conflicts, and their families continue to await answers.

“This is not only a national tragedy but also a universal humanitarian concern faced by many countries,” she said.

Concluding her remarks, Gafarova emphasised that Azerbaijan, once a recipient of humanitarian aid, now acts as a donor country, supporting the UN and international humanitarian efforts.
