Reports of Khamenei’s Russia trip dismissed as false
Reports claiming that Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, travelled to Russia have been dismissed as false, while his reported injuries are said not to interfere with his ability to carry out his duties.
According to RIA Novosti, which cited a diplomatic source, Khamenei did not visit Russia at all, “not even for several hours.”
The claims followed earlier reporting by the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida, which alleged that Khamenei had been urgently taken to Moscow for medical treatment after sustaining injuries. These assertions were also rejected by Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, who denied that Khamenei had been in the country.
Separately, on March 12, The Sun reported that Khamenei had suffered serious injuries as a result of an airstrike, including the possible amputation of one or both legs and that he had fallen into a coma. However, these reports have not received any official confirmation.
