Representatives of Armenian authorities involved in drug smuggling

26 May 2023 14:22

Armenia’s law enforcement agencies have discovered that well-known representatives of the country’s current authorities have attempted to smuggle drugs into the country.

As Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media, Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) has been spreading reports on the disclosure of attempts to smuggle drugs into the country for several days now.

First, the service revealed that 1 ton of cocaine was smuggled into Armenia; following that, it was reported that narcotics and weapons from Iran were planned to be smuggled into the country.

“Law enforcement agencies have found out that well-known representatives of the current Armenian authorities are involved in the case,” the publication says, promising to soon reveal who exactly is involved in the smuggling.

A reminder that on May 18, the NSS prevented the smuggling of a ton of cocaine, imported to the republic by an Ecuadorian fruit-importing company.

A giant shipment of drugs (its value is estimated at about 250 million euros) came to the republic in transit through Italy and Georgia. According to the National Security Service, the total value of the detained and seized shipment is about 250 million euros.

As part of the criminal case, a number of examinations were appointed, interrogations were carried out, and requests were sent to various competent structures.

The use of illegal substances in Armenia has increased by almost 95 per cent over the year, with the number of Telegram channels for drug purchases close to 3,000.
