Romania first EU state to sign strategic partnership deal with Azerbaijan—official

Romania became the first European Union member state to sign a Strategic Partnership Declaration with Azerbaijan in 2009, Mircea Abrudean, President of the Romanian Senate, has stated.

Addressing an event dedicated to Azerbaijan’s Independence Day in Bucharest, Abrudean noted that Romania was also the second country to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence, adding that the two countries have since developed strong relations of strategic partnership, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

He also highlighted the significance of Azerbaijani investments in Romania’s energy infrastructure, including projects in digital infrastructure and green energy sectors.
