Roundtable on Azerbaijan-Türkiye media platform kicks off in Baku

A roundtable on the Azerbaijan-Türkiye media platform has started in Baku, organized with support from the Centre for Social Research (CSR), the Turkish Communications Directorate in Baku, and the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan.

The focus of the roundtable is on the “Five Years of the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Media Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye: A Review of Joint Activities and Future Goals," Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The event features prominent participants including the Chairman of the CSR, MP Zahid Oruj, Deputy Chairman of the CSR Board, Tahir Allahyarov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, Ahmad Ismayilov, Chairman of the Press Council, Rashad Mammadov, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Professor Birol Akgün, and Vice-President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) from Azerbaijan, MP Sevil Mikayilova.

Other participants include MP Vugar Rahimzade, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting CJSC Rovshan Mammadov, and General Director of the REAL Centre for Analytics and Information, Mirshahin Agayev, as well as several media executives.

Zahid Oruj, the head of the Centre for Social Research and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, highlighted the significance of the event during his address. He noted that the golden period of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye coincided with the 44-day war in the autumn of 2020: "From the first day of the war, the unity of the heads of state also served as a stimulus for journalists.

Commenting on the importance of Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Professor Birol Akgün, remarked that no other countries share the same level of close ties as Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Speaking at the same roundtable, Akgün said: "I have personally witnessed this over the past two weeks. No other countries have such close relations."

According to him, the Azerbaijani quarter, built in Kahramanmaraş, serves as an everlasting symbol of the enduring friendship between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Furthermore, Akgün emphasized Türkiye's unwavering support for Azerbaijan, particularly in the reconstruction of Nagorno-Karabakh.

He reiterated Türkiye's readiness to offer comprehensive assistance in rebuilding the region, underscoring the strong and deep-rooted ties between the two countries.
