Russia deploys new batch of TOS‑1A “Solntsepyok” flamethrower systems
Russian state corporation Rostec has confirmed that its Uralvagonzavod concern has delivered a new batch of TOS‑1A heavy flamethrower systems, known as “Solntsepyok,” to the Russian armed forces.
The latest vehicles feature an upgraded protection system against drones, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
According to Rostec’s press service, the shipment coincided with preparations for the Day of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Troops. Before being sent to operational units, the systems underwent extensive mobility and reliability tests, including shop acceptance and delivery‑acceptance procedures, to ensure compliance with technical and tactical specifications.
“The items demonstrated high quality and conformed to the requirements of the supply contract. Following acceptance, the batch was sent to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for operational use,” said a representative of the Uralvagonzavod plant.
The TOS‑1A systems are based on the T‑72 tank chassis and can fire salvos over ranges from hundreds of metres to several kilometres. Each full salvo, delivered within seconds, can cover an area of up to 40,000 square metres, providing powerful fire support to assault units.
Rostec emphasised that the TOS‑1A remains one of the most effective examples of modern Russian weaponry, with no direct equivalents worldwide. According to the corporation, Solntsepyok crews have successfully used the systems in the ongoing military operation to neutralise fortified positions, UAV control points, personnel, and armoured vehicles.
