Russia explores laser, electromagnetic systems to counter swarms of drones
Russia is investigating the use of laser and electromagnetic technologies as potential defences against large-scale drone attacks, according to Bekhan Ozdoyev, industrial director of the arms cluster at the state corporation Rostec.
Ozdoyev highlighted that while drones are expected to play a decisive role in future conflicts, traditional armoured vehicles, including tanks, will remain important but may take a less central role on the battlefield, Caliber.Az reports per TASS.
He emphasised that efforts to develop counter-drone measures are advancing, with air defence systems expected to be upgraded and the deployment of interceptor drones increased.
In addition, the development of laser and electromagnetic countermeasures could eventually render large enemy drone fleets ineffective, even if adversaries deploy hundreds of thousands of unmanned aerial vehicles, Ozdoyev suggested.
