Russia, Iran set to strengthen ties with Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement

17 January 2025 15:40

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran will mark a new chapter in bilateral relations.

The Iranian president, who is currently on an official visit to Russia, met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

He is also set to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he will sign the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran.

"I am confident that this agreement will open a new and solid chapter in our bilateral relations," Pezeshkian said during his meeting with Mishustin.

Pezeshkian assured Mishustin that Iran is fully committed to fulfilling all agreements that will be reached between Iran and Russia at the highest level.

"During this visit, not only this major agreement, but also other arrangements that our colleagues have been working on will be signed," Pezeshkian added.

Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali has said that a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran is set to be ratified by the Iranian parliament and will last for 20 years.

"After the agreement is signed, it must be ratified by the Iranian parliament. Once ratified, it will be in effect for 20 years," Jalali stated.

The ambassador did not clarify whether the agreement includes a provision for automatic renewal after the initial 20-year period.

Earlier, Jalali confirmed that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran covers all areas of bilateral cooperation. The agreement, consisting of 47 articles, was developed over three years through numerous meetings and amendments, he explained.

The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture. The partnership is built on the long-term agreement established in 2001, extended until 2026, and is expected to govern relations for the next 20 years.
