Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Russia has always been a partner in Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program and played a positive role in negotiations on the issue. He made the remarks during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on June 23.
According to Araghchi, in the field of Iran’s nuclear program, Russia has always been Iran's partner, having built the Bushehr nuclear power plant. He also acdded thatm in achieving agreements on nuclear energy, Russia has played a positive role, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Earlier, Reuters cited a senior source saying that Araghchi is also expected to deliver a letter from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to Putin, seeking Moscow’s support.
Putin has repeatedly offered to mediate between the United States and Iran and said he had conveyed Moscow’s ideas for resolving the conflict while ensuring Iran’s continued access to civilian nuclear energy. The Russian president also noted that Israel had given assurances to Moscow that Russian specialists working on two additional reactors at the Bushehr plant would not be harmed in air strikes.
Russia, a longstanding ally of Tehran, plays a key role in Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the West, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a signatory to the original nuclear deal abandoned by US President Donald Trump in 2018.
