Russia links future ties with Germany to Ukraine war stance
Any discussions about the future of relations between Russia and Germany will only be possible once Berlin “officially condemns Ukraine’s actions” and stops supplying weapons to Ukraine, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
Zakharova outlined Moscow’s position on potential future engagement with Germany, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Any talks about the future are only possible when Berlin officially states the inadmissibility of conducting military operations against the citizens of our country, condemns them, and stops sponsoring Ukraine,” the diplomat said. “Only in this case, I think, we can even hypothetically imagine such discussions,” Zakharova added.
She also noted that relations between Russia and Germany once had “truly incredible development prospects.”
“These were not empty words, these were concrete projects that had already been implemented and were supposed to continue,” she said. “Everything was abandoned and trampled because Germany was unable to defend its political sovereignty and protect itself from the destructive influence of ultra-liberal forces involving the Obama–Biden US administration conglomerate.”
Zakharova added that Europe will need significant time to deal with the consequences of its decisions on Ukraine.
She further argued that European countries are prioritizing militarization over economic, energy, educational, scientific, and cultural development, which she said is contributing to escalating tensions across the continent.
