Russia's Zakharova commends Azerbaijan’s high-level organisation of COP29 climate summit
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has praised the level of organisation by Baku of the COP29 climate change conference, saying that it is perfectly organised.
Recalling that Russia was widely represented at COP29, Zakharova noted that this once again proves that her country is a consistent supporter of united efforts to combat climate change, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The diplomat said that her country's delegation to COP29 was received at a high level by official Baku.
“We are confident that hosting the COP in Azerbaijan will enhance Baku's reputation in the international arena. Especially when the event showcases such results, successes and level. We aim to continue strengthening co-operation with Azerbaijan and all other interested countries on climate,” Zakharova emphasised.
Let’s note that the Russian side at COP29 is represented by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who arrived in Azerbaijan on November 13.
The focus of the COP29 climate talks in Baku from November 11 through 22 is financing climate goals, especially for the developing world, as trillions of dollars are required for countries to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening impacts of climate change.
The conference is also a key moment for countries to present their updated national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement, which are due by early 2025. If done right, these plans will limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and double as investment plans advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
