Russia says it will defend freedom of navigation in the Baltic Sea
Russia has declared its readiness to use all available resources to protect the principle of freedom of navigation in the Baltic Sea.
Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Artem Bulatov, stated that Moscow would rely on legal, political, and other available instruments to ensure unhindered maritime movement in the region.
“To ensure respect for the principle of freedom of navigation in the Baltic Sea, the Russian side will use the full range of available means and resources. First of all, legal and political ones, but not limited to them,” Bulatov told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that NATO’s 2025 mission “Baltic Sentry” is seen by Moscow as an attempt to establish control over key logistics routes and restrict Russian cargo transport. In his assessment, the alliance’s actions pose a direct threat to the country’s economic security.
