Russian city of Belgorod hit by US-made HIMARS missiles
Ukraine’s Armed Forces (AFU) have struck the city of Belgorod. The attack was carried out using missiles from the U.S.-supplied HIMARS system.
Local residents reported hearing five to six loud explosions, with bright flashes and columns of white smoke visible in the sky. According to Belgorod Mayor Valentin Demidov, the strike caused disruptions to electricity, heating, and water supplies in parts of the city.
Later, Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said the attack resulted in extensive damage to energy infrastructure. He specified that facilities in the Belgorod, Rakityansky, Borisovsky, Grayvoronsky, and Yakovlevsky districts were hit. No casualties were reported.
“I cannot provide more details, because we understand that the enemy is closely analysing the current situation,” the Belgorod governor said.
He also noted that there is currently no need to set up temporary accommodation or heating centres in the region.
On the morning after the attack, Gladkov acknowledged that electricity supply in Belgorod had not yet been fully restored. At the same time, he уточнил that schools and kindergartens will operate as usual on Friday, 6 February.
The AFU began attacks on Belgorod on February 3. At that time, one infrastructure facility sustained serious damage, while social facilities and the water supply system were switched to backup generators.
