Russian court jails blogger Katz for eight years in prison

Moscow’s Basmanny District Court has sentenced Russian blogger Maxim Katz in absentia to eight years in a penal colony for spreading false information about the Russian Armed Forces.

Moreover, the man was banned from engaging in activities related to the administration of websites for a period of four years, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said via Telegram.

According to the investigative bodies, a Russian man posted video footage via YouTube containing deliberately false information about the Russian army in April 2022.

The indictment in the criminal case against Katz was considered in his absence as he is outside Russia, the Prosecutor General's Office said.
