Russian political analyst foresees very dark and dismal times for Armenia

13 March 2024 12:27

According to Russian political scientist Aslan Rubayev, recent statements made about Armenia's membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have raised serious concerns.

It appears that Armenia may soon leave the organization, and this is due in no small part to the efforts of Nikol Pashinyan, Caliber.Az quotes Rubayev as saying in his interview for Armenian media.

Unfortunately, it seems that relations between Armenia and Russia are deteriorating rapidly and in a one-sided manner, the expert added.

"Pashinyan has publicly criticized Moscow and the CSTO for their perceived inaction on key issues, and he has made it clear that he is actively seeking alternative power structures. This could include closer ties with NATO, which would be a significant shift in Armenia's foreign policy. This move would also be consistent with the recent foreign policy initiatives of both the French President and the White House," Rubayev believes.

"In other words, the collective West today wants to withdraw Armenia from the CSTO and introduce a NATO peacekeeping mission there. And Pashinyan will do everything necessary to achieve this. We see that he does not seek constructive relations with Moscow. We see that he does not aim at the constructive development of Armenia. Unfortunately, Pashinyan is not a pro-Armenian force and is not ready to defend the sovereignty and security of Armenia and the Armenian people," the expert notes.

The pundit believes that withdrawal from the CSTO will lead to immense suffering for Armenia, as Armenia will lose its security and the shield that has protected it for many years.

"Today we must note that unfortunately, we have lost the alliance established between Russia and Armenia. We have lost our main strategic partner in the South Caucasus. Armenia was our main ally. Today, I predict that we will no longer be allies, and as a result, Armenia will lose its huge economic potential. Our relations will deteriorate shortly and will resemble those with Georgia.

Today Pashinyan is acting against the interests of the Armenian people. But Moscow is ready for constructive actions on the part of Armenia, which unfortunately have not yet been taken. I hope that this misunderstanding will be resolved positively, but I am afraid that we will no longer be partners and allies. And Armenia will soon follow the path of anti-Russian and harsh rhetoric. The entire Armenian community, the expert community and part of the elite that makes decisions in Armenia today are working for this. Therefore, very dark and gloomy times are coming for Armenia," Rubayev said.
