Russian president orders scientific review To address Caspian Sea shallowing
Russian President Vladimir Putin has directed a scientific evaluation to address the Caspian Sea's decreasing water levels, an issue he discussed during a recent visit to Azerbaijan with President Ilham Aliyev.
Speaking at a meeting with Astrakhan region governor Igor Babushkin, Putin highlighted the concerns raised by Aliyev regarding the ongoing shallowing of the Caspian Sea, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He noted that the Azerbaijani President had expressed a strong interest in cooperating with the Astrakhan region on this issue.
“During my visit to Azerbaijan, President Aliyev emphasized the problem of the Caspian Sea’s shoaling. He spoke highly of potential cooperation with the Astrakhan region,” Putin remarked.
In response to these concerns, Putin has instructed the preparation of a comprehensive scientific analysis to assess the current situation in the Volga and Caspian Sea regions. He tasked the Astrakhan governor with drafting a formal request to the government for this analysis, aimed at identifying effective measures to address the Caspian Sea’s declining water levels.
Governor Babushkin committed to mobilizing the region’s scientific community to develop the report. He assured that the findings would be submitted promptly to assist in devising a strategy to mitigate the effects of the Caspian Sea’s shallowing.
