Saudi-Azerbaijan partnership strengthens via joint economic platforms
Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan are intensifying their efforts to bolster trade and economic ties, utilizing dedicated collaborative frameworks such as the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation (JICC) and the Saudi-Azerbaijan Business Council.
These developments were highlighted during events marking Saudi Arabia’s National Day, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Saudi Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Essam bin Saleh Al-Jutaili, emphasized that high-level mutual visits have laid a strong foundation for enhanced cooperation. Speaking at the National Day event, Al-Jutaili underscored the importance of the joint committee and business council as pivotal instruments driving deeper integration in trade, investment, and economic exchanges.
He further remarked that the historically rooted relationship, established in 1991 following Azerbaijan’s independence, continues to evolve dynamically across multiple sectors. The ambassador expressed optimism that shared goals between the two nations would catalyze significant growth in trade and investment in the near future.
Complementing this perspective, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov also acknowledged the crucial role played by the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations. At the same, Sharifov outlined how the commission facilitates productive dialogue and collaboration across political, trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and tourism sectors.
Sharifov highlighted the success of the eighth session of the commission held in Riyadh on April 28, which culminated in the signing of a protocol expected to substantially enhance cooperation efforts.
Moreover, he pointed to the strategic importance of Saudi Arabia’s participation in the inaugural Azerbaijan Investment Forum in Baku, during which a landmark agreement was reached with ACWA Power for constructing a seawater desalination facility. This initiative exemplifies the expanding scope of joint projects that underscore the deepening economic partnership between the two countries.
