Serbian president: Iran conflict marks beginning of global turmoil

07 March 2026 17:03

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has warned that the world is entering a period of dramatic geopolitical upheaval that could lead to unprecedented casualties.

Speaking during a presentation of Serbia’s national development strategy, Vučić said the international system is undergoing “tectonic changes” and cautioned that the current conflict involving Iran may mark only the beginning of a broader wave of global confrontations.

“We are living at the beginning of major conflicts,” Vučić said. “Not relying only on my instincts, acquaintances or the information I received, I tried to base my conclusions on facts. It was not difficult for me to predict what would happen in Eastern Europe and in Iran. Even after the negotiations in Geneva, I was attacked and told that I was wrong.”

He added that the fighting involving Iran could escalate further and predicted a decisive US military campaign against the country’s capabilities.

“Today I am telling you: this is the beginning of the conflict. The Americans will destroy all of Iran’s military infrastructure. The Iranians are a brave people; they will fight, but at some point it will become clear whose power dominates,” Vučić said. “After that, a conditional peace will be reached, but that will only be the start of conflicts — not in Iran, but throughout the world.”

Vučić also pointed to growing international pressure to bring an end to the war between Ukraine and Russia. Despite those efforts, he said he does not expect the conflict to conclude soon.

“Pressure is increasing to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, but it will not end soon,” the Serbian leader said. “I predict that these conflicts will end with the heaviest casualties in the history of humanity, because weapons will be used that have been used only once. I hope that I am wrong.”
