Serbian president to visit Azerbaijan in 2026
Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vučić, is expected to visit Azerbaijan next year.
The trip to Baku is anticipated to provide fresh momentum to Azerbaijani-Serbian relations, which have already been elevated to the level of strategic partnership, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia were established in 1997 and have since developed into a strategic partnership, underpinned by political solidarity, energy cooperation, infrastructure projects, and growing trade.
Both countries emphasise mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, with Serbia supporting Azerbaijan on Karabakh issues and Azerbaijan backing Serbia on Kosovo. Energy has become a key driver, as Azerbaijan diversifies Serbia’s gas supplies, while infrastructure links aim to strengthen connectivity between the Balkans and the Caucasus.
High‑level visits have reinforced these ties. In December 2023, President Aleksandar Vučić accepted an invitation from President Ilham Aliyev to visit Azerbaijan, highlighting the personal rapport between the leaders.
More recently, in October 2025, Vučić met Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister Sahil Babayev in Belgrade, reaffirming bilateral cooperation at a “very high level” and preparing for the first session of the Serbia‑Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership Council.
