Sikh activists stage global protests against India over alleged killings Research by BIG

Sikh activists, followers of the monotheistic religion founded by Guru Nanak in India’s Punjab region, alongside members of the organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), have staged coordinated protests in Washington, London, Toronto, Vancouver, Milan, and Melbourne, condemning the policies of the Indian government.

The demonstrators accused the government of complicity in the killings of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and Bangladeshi public figure Osman Hadi, both outspoken critics of India’s influence in Bangladesh’s domestic affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

These findings are part of a study conducted by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) examining protest actions around the world targeting the policies of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The protests, which took place on December 24, aimed primarily to draw international attention to India’s alleged responsibility for the deaths of Nijjar and Hadi.

Osman Hadi was known for his vocal criticism of Prime Minister Modi’s policies. “After slogans calling for ‘Catch Modi’s spies! Arrest them!’ circulated on social media, Hadi began receiving threats. Shortly thereafter, he was killed under mysterious circumstances,” the report said. On December 12, 2025, Hadi was seriously wounded in an armed attack in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, and succumbed to his injuries three days later in hospital.

Similarly, Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was murdered by unidentified assailants in Brampton, Canada, in 2023. Members of the Sikh community allege that the Indian government was behind his killing.
