Silk Road spotlight: Azerbaijan’s strategic importance showcased in France PHOTO
The Rotary Club Epicure in Saint Quentin Vallee De Chevreuse, France, has hosted an event entitled “Azerbaijan's role in Silk Road,” shedding light on the country’s historical and contemporary significance in regional trade and culture.
The gathering, part of the charity evening “Art and Wine,” featured a keynote address by Mirvari Fataliyeva, Secretary General of the Friends of Azerbaijan Association, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Fataliyeva detailed Azerbaijan’s pivotal position on both the ancient and modern Silk Road, emphasizing the nation’s role as a natural bridge connecting Asia and Europe.
“Historically, cities such as Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan, and Shaki served as key centers of trade, culture, and science,” she explained. “Today, Azerbaijan’s strategic importance is further enhanced through initiatives such as the Middle Corridor, the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, and the Baku International Sea Trade Port in Alat.”
The cultural component of the evening included a tasting of Azerbaijani wines. In addition, a book on Azerbaijani cuisine, prepared by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, was auctioned for charity, with the proceeds supporting the club’s social projects.
President of Rotary Club Epicure, remarked that the presentation on Azerbaijan’s rich history, culture, and contemporary development drew strong interest from attendees, highlighting the enduring relevance of the country on the global stage.
