SOCAR holds Davos talks on energy transition, Absheron field development

The president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovshan Najaf, held a series of high-level meetings on Tuesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, focusing on global energy challenges, clean energy cooperation and the development of the Absheron gas field.

In a post on X, Najaf said the discussions took place during WEF 2026, which has brought together government leaders and senior energy executives to address pressing geopolitical and economic issues shaping global markets.

During talks with Hayashi Nobumitsu, Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Najaf said both sides reaffirmed their long-standing partnership and explored opportunities linked to the global energy transition.

“Our discussions focused on clean energy initiatives, emerging technologies and sustainable infrastructure supporting the energy transition and the digital transformation agenda,” Najaf said.

“We also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and underscored the importance of continued dialogue in addressing shared energy challenges.”

He added that SOCAR and JBIC remain committed to advancing projects that deliver long-term value while contributing to global energy security and resilience.

Separately, Najaf met with Musabbeh Al Kaabi, Chief Executive Officer for Upstream at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), where the focus shifted to upstream cooperation and project development.

“We focused on advancing strategic cooperation in the energy sector, reviewing current operations and the full-field development of the Absheron gas and condensate field,” Najaf said, noting that the sides also assessed progress under their Strategic Cooperation Agreement.
