Somali foreign minister pays tribute at national memorials in Baku PHOTO
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, paid a solemn visit to Baku’s national memorial sites as part of his official trip to Azerbaijan.
The Somali minister first visited the Alley of Honour, where he laid a wreath at the grave of National Leader Heydar Aliyev — the founder of modern, independent Azerbaijan — to pay tribute to his memory and legacy, Caliber.Az reports per Azertag.
He then proceeded to the Alley of Martyrs, where he honoured the memory of Azerbaijani heroes who lost their lives in the country’s struggle for independence and territorial integrity. Minister Abdi Ali laid a wreath at the “Eternal Flame” monument in remembrance of their sacrifice.
He then visited the Victory Park in Baku, where a guard of honour was lined up to welcome the distinguished guest, Azertag writes.
The Somali minister laid a wreath at the Victory Monument located within the park.
Later, he was briefed in detail about the Victory Park, which was established to commemorate the heroism demonstrated by the Azerbaijani people during the Patriotic War, to celebrate the historic victory, and to honour the memory of the fallen heroes.
It was noted that at the entrance of the park, which spans nearly 10 hectares, a symbolic Victory Arch has been constructed to represent the 44-day Patriotic War. The arch stands 44 meters tall, is 22 meters wide, and is supported by 44 columns.
It is worth mentioning that the park was officially inaugurated on November 8, 2024, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
