12 February 2025 16:11

As part of his official visit to Azerbaijan, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, paid a tribute to the memory of Azerbaijan's National Leader, Heydar Aliyev, at the Alley of Honors in Baku.

The Somali President laid a wreath at the tomb of Heydar Aliyev, the architect and founder of modern independent Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

In a gesture of respect, the President also honoured the memory of renowned ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva, placing fresh flowers at her grave. Additionally, the graves of prominent Azerbaijani statesman Aziz Aliyev and Professor Tamerlan Aliyev were visited, with bouquets laid in their remembrance.

Later in the day, President Mohamud visited Victory Park in Baku, where he was greeted with a ceremonial guard in his honour. At the park, the Somali President laid a wreath at the Victory monument, commemorating the heroism of the Azerbaijani people during the 44-day Patriotic War.

The park, established to immortalize the memory of Azerbaijan's martyrs and the historic victory in the war, spans nearly 10 hectares. A significant feature of the park is the Victory Arch at its entrance, symbolizing the 44-day war with its 44-meter height, 22-meter width, and 44 columns.

The Victory Park was officially opened on November 8, 2024, with the participation of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
